  • All four of Australia’s motor vehicle manufacturers offer either factory fitted or factory-approved LPG Autogas systems for their locally built family sedans.

Ford offers a factory-fitted dedicated LPG Autogas-only variant of Falcon called the E-gas and GM Holden now offers a sophisticated Autogas injection system for Australia’s most popular car, Commodore.

  • Amongst light commercial vehicles, Ford’s factory-fitted E-gas system is available on models of Falcon Ute and Toyota offers sophisticated direct injection technology for the 2.7 litre engine in its all-new HiAce van range.

All these systems are warranted by the manufacturers.

  • As well as these factory-approved Autogas systems there are a number of aftermarket systems available for fitment to current model vehicles including popular 4WDs. Ask your local installer. To find an installer near you use our TRIP PLANNER and then select INSTALLERS, then use the AUTOGAS LOCATOR on that page.
  • Mitsubishi's 380, Challenger, Express Van, Pajero and Triton are all LPG compatible and will soon feature the latest sequential multi-port direct injection system as an approved aftermarket option.
  • In many cases you will have a choice of either a dedicated or a dual-fuel system. Dual-fuel systems allow the vehicle to operate on either LPG or unleaded petrol. This could almost double the vehicles range. The petrol tank still remains in the car and the driver can switch from gas to petrol or vice-versa.
  • Dedicated Autogas systems are an advantage for those who want to ensure the driver always fills up with much more inexpensive Autogas rather than petrol, thereby controlling costs.
  • You can buy a new Autogas-powered vehicle or system secure in the knowledge that Australia has the most stringent safety requirements in the world. Every aspect of Autogas systems and their installation is covered by a National Code or Standard and also by similar or additional State Regulations.
  • Modern Autogas engine systems are designed to be safe in use, safe to repair and safe in a vehicle accident. All LPG tanks are rigorously tested and much stronger than conventional petrol tanks. In a crash, they can withstand enormous impact forces without deforming.

    Other mandated safety features include:

    • Two electronically controlled shut-off solenoids (on cylinder and under bonnet) which stop the flow of gas to the engine if the engine stops for any reason
    • Pressure relief valves for the tank and the system, to prevent any pressure build up that may damage the system, or be hazardous
    • Double back-check valves to ensure gas tight filling
    • Sealed compartments and venting around valves and pipe-work to ensure no LPG enters the interior of the vehicle.
